Repairs for automatic gearboxes with dual clutch (DSG)

Dual clutch gearboxes (DSG) offer fast gear changes and high efficiency, but they are complex systems, sensitive to wear, temperature and incorrect maintenance. Problems often appear gradually and can easily be mistaken for minor faults, although the real cause is a serious technical one.

At Automatico we approach DSG repairs through a complete process of diagnosis, testing and specialized intervention, with the aim of eliminating the real cause of the defect and restoring the correct operation of the transmission.

Common symptoms of DSG boxes

  • jerks or shocks when starting off and changing gears
  • delays in engaging (D / R)
  • vibrations at low speeds or in urban traffic
  • slipping when accelerating
  • warning lights on the dashboard or error messages
  • the box entering emergency mode

Ignoring these signs can lead to failure of the clutches, the mechatronic unit or other internal components.

Why is it important to repair a DSG gearbox correctly

DSG gearboxes are not repaired “on a whim”. Partial interventions or superficial diagnoses can temporarily solve the symptoms, without eliminating the cause. A correct repair:

  • prevents recurring defects
  • protects already functional components
  • reduces long-term costs
  • restores comfort and safety in operation

At Automatico, each DSG repair is tailored exactly to the type of gearbox and the degree of wear identified.

Through our partnership with TVS Engineering, a recognized Dutch company specializing in DSG gearbox repairs and tuning, we offer Volkswagen, Skoda and Audi owners optimized software solutions for DSG gearboxes, designed to improve reliability and driving experience.

Benefits of the optimized DSG software:

  • Extends the life of the gearbox and the double clutch by increasing the clutch disc pressure.
  • Optimizes gear changes in Drive (D) mode, selecting the ideal gear according to the car speed and engine torque, reducing hesitation and shift delays.
  • Corrects the factory setting for DSG 7, where 7th gear is engaged too early (at 60 km/h), moving its engagement to approximately 80 km/h.
  • Reactivates 1st gear at speeds below 15 km/h, significantly reducing clutch wear for 2nd / 4th / 6th gears and eliminating vibrations felt in 2nd gear during tight turns and very high speeds. small.

Transforms the factory aggressive S mode into a sportier D mode, much more balanced and enjoyable for daily driving.

Main steps in DSG gearbox repair

1. Initial assessment and symptom consultation

We start with a detailed discussion of the car’s behavior: when the problems occur, under what conditions and what previous interventions have been made. This information is essential for the correct direction of the diagnosis.

2. Dedicated DSG electronic diagnosis

We use specific equipment to read the mechatronic unit and the DSG gearbox parameters. We analyze the error codes, clutch adaptations, temperatures and working pressures, to identify the exact affected area.

3. Mechanical and functional testing

Depending on the results, we test the behavior of the clutches and the control system. This stage helps us differentiate between a control problem (mechatronics) and a mechanical one (clutches, bearings, internal components).

4. Intervention: repair or reconditioning

Based on the diagnosis, we intervene specifically: DSG clutch reconditioning, mechatronic unit repair or other necessary work. We do not recommend unnecessary replacements and do not intervene without a clear technical justification.

5. Final testing and adaptations

After the repair, the gearbox is tested and adapted according to the manufacturer’s specifications. We check the operation under real conditions to ensure that the transmission responds correctly and consistently.

WARRANTY FOR DUAL CLUTCH GEARBOX REPAIRS (DSG)

2-year or 100,000km warranty, with the following amendments:

The 2 years are cumulative as follows:

  • 1 year standard warranty or 100,000km and
an additional year if the condition of performing an intermediate inspection 6 months after the internal reconditioning of the transmission is met.
    The inspection is chargeable.
  • It is necessary to perform and observe the inspection intervals according to the manufacturer’s requirements (e.g. 60,000km for the VAG range).
  • The car is not overloaded in operation, such as car competitions or taxi or driving school activities.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Have a question? Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions.

How do I know if my DSG gearbox needs repair?

The dual clutch gearbox can show signs of failure before a complete lockup. Common symptoms include sudden or delayed gear changes, jerky acceleration, vibrations, illuminated transmission warning lights on the dashboard or error messages. For proper diagnosis, a computer check and specialized technical evaluation are recommended, as DSG faults can be difficult to identify without the right equipment.

What types of interventions does Automatico perform on DSG gearboxes?

At Automatico we offer comprehensive solutions for most situations encountered in dual clutch transmissions. Our service includes mechatronics repairs (solenoid valves, control units), dual clutch replacement, flywheel replacement, oil seals, bearings and pinions, as well as software rewriting or optimization for smoother and more reliable behavior.

Why is proper repair of a DSG gearbox important?

DSG gearboxes are designed for fast shifts and efficiency, but their complexity requires precise interventions. A correct repair prevents accelerated wear of internal components, eliminates gearshift errors and can restore performance and driving comfort. Also, through technical partnerships (including optimized software), the transmission can operate more smoothly and with a longer lifespan.
