Reconditioning of hydraulic and mechatronic blocks

Hydraulic blocks and mechatronic units are the “heart” of the control system of an automatic transmission. They manage pressures, gear changes and continuous clutch adaptations. Even a small error at this level can generate visible symptoms in the behavior of the transmission.

At Automatico we offer professional reconditioning for a wide range of hydraulic and mechatronic blocks, using specific technical procedures and specialized equipment, so that the automatic transmission operates at optimal parameters. The mechatronic unit solution is increasingly used by gearbox manufacturers, such as ZF, Mercedes and BorgWarner. Original parts from renowned manufacturers are used in the reconditioning process (e.g. Sonnax, ZF).

Common symptoms of faulty hydraulic / mechatronic blocks

  • Affected blocks can cause:
  • sudden or delayed gear changes
  • shocks during gear changes (hard shift)
  • the gearbox enters emergency mode
  • loss of hydraulic pressure
  • warning lights on the dashboard (transmission errors)
  • gears that “slip” or engage with difficulty

These symptoms can occur in both dual-clutch and classic automatic gearboxes. Accurate diagnosis is the only way to correctly differentiate them and take appropriate measures.

Examples of hydraulic blocks that we recondition:

  • ZF 6HP26, 6HP19 hydraulic block (equips BMW, Audi, Jaguar automatic transmissions)
  • ZF 8HP45, 8HP55 hydraulic block (equips BMW, Audi, Jaguar automatic transmissions)
  • Mercedes 722.6 and 722.9 hydraulic block
  • TF60 hydraulic block (equips VW Golf, Audi A3, Mini Cooper 6-speed automatic transmissions)
  • TR60 hydraulic block (equips VW Touareg, Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne automatic transmissions)

Why block reconditioning is critical

Hydraulic blocks and mechatronic units regulate the pressure circuit and gear shift “decisions” depending on driving style, temperature and load. Failures in these components quickly lead to:

  • accelerated clutch wear
  • uneven operation of the box
  • unjustified high repair costs if interventions are made “on assumptions”

Proper reconditioning means restoring internal circuits, checking and replacing worn components and rigorous testing before assembly.

Reconditioning steps

1. Initial diagnosis and symptom consultation

We talk with the driver to understand exactly how the transmission behaves: when the symptoms appear, under what conditions and for how long they have been manifesting. This information is fundamental to correctly guide the next steps.

2. Electronic diagnosis dedicated to the box

We connect the tester to the transmission control unit and analyze the error codes, real-time parameters and the adaptations made by the system. This diagnosis shows us whether the hydraulic block or mechatronics is directly involved in the defect.

3. Disassembly, cleaning and technical inspection

The block is completely disassembled, professionally cleaned and visually and technically checked. We identify worn or defective components: valves, valves, internal circuits, gaskets.

4. Reconditioning and replacement of components

We replace worn parts, restore hydraulic and mechanical circuits and ensure adjustments according to manufacturer specifications. The process is adapted to each type of block.

5. Final testing and validation

The reconditioned block is tested for pressures, reaction times and adaptations. Only after all checks are passed, the unit is considered ready for assembly.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Have a question? Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions.

What types of hydraulic and mechatronic blocks do you recondition?

Defective hydraulic blocks can manifest themselves through sudden or delayed gear changes, failure to select a gear, jerky shifts, or the appearance of specific error codes during computer diagnostics.

How do you identify if the hydraulic block is faulty?

Defective hydraulic blocks can manifest themselves through sudden or delayed gear changes, failure to select a gear, jerky shifts, or the appearance of specific error codes during computer diagnostics.

Does the refurbished block come with a warranty?

Yes. Hydraulic blocks reconditioned through our service benefit from a 1-year or 100,000 km warranty, which gives you the assurance of correct operation after the intervention.
